If there was an opportunity to mention the app and where to download it from, we took it. E-mail signatures, voice mail messages, personal social media, friends, family, colleagues, suppliers, clients – everyone knew about our new apps and they, in turn, spread the word.
Obviously, we encouraged people to review our app on the app store, but we underlined we wanted honest, objective reviews. We also built in a device to prompt users to rate the app once they’d used it. Decent reviews will encourage others to download it, but fake reviews stick out like a sore thumb.
We made sure that we celebrated and shared all the positive news and reviews on our blogs and social media too.
We would have loved to have had more glittering launch parties and invite press and celebrities, but that would have probably cost more than our entire development budget, so not the best investment with a small budget. Instead, we celebrated with a quiet drink…. Followed by several very loud ones.
